T...4...3...2...1 Blast off for World Down Syndrome Month
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on 21 March each year.
This year in a rare event it happens to coincide with Good Friday. But there's no need to panic because this year we're declaring the whole of March to be World Down Sydrome Month.
That means there's plenty of time to hold your 'T4321' celebrations. That is 'Tea for 3-21' in recognition of the fact Down syndrome is caused by 3 copies of chromosone 21.
Celebrating World Down Syndrome Month is as simple as putting on a Morning or Afternoon Tea at your home, school, workplace, club, church, local park or wherever you please, inviting friends, colleagues, neighbours, etc, breaking open the tim tams, baking some scones, or asking your local bakery to donate some lammies, putting on the kettle, and you're away.
It is also a great chance to raise a few useful dollars to support children and adults with Down syndrome in achieving their full potential. To express interest and receive your 'T4321' Kit, or to advertise your World DS Month event, just contact Steve or Priscilla by email on t4321@dsansw.org.au  or telephone on 9683 1900 or 042 4044 930.

What does it cost to raise a child with an intellectual disability?
Professor Stewart Einfeld (University of Sydney), Professor Bruce Tonge (Monash University) and Associate Professor Chris Doran (University of Queensland) are currently investigating the costs, to families, of raising a person with an intellectual disability. This information will assist in future advocacy for government support. We need information from families to answer this important question. If you would like to participate in the study, or require further information, please contact Research Assistant, Sian Horstead, via email shorstead@med.usvd.edu.au  or by calling 02 9351 0884.
